May 29th, 2008

Skill level:       Any level

Age:                Any age

Material:        A description for teacher to introduce the lesson, paper for drawing, pictures

Time:              10-15 minutes

Objectives:     To practice listening to description of pictures

To practice of using the preposition of place

                        To practice describing the pictures

                        To create their own story

Procedure:

1.      Preparation. Teacher will start by asking students if there is anyone likes to dictate. Then, teacher will tell the students the main idea of the class that they will do a dictation, but it will not be a letter dictation; it will be a drawing dictation. Teacher will also ask students if there is anyone likes to draw. Then, teacher will ask students to do a drawing dictation toward teacher’s description about a place. Teacher will describe sentence by sentence. After finishing drawing, teacher will show students real picture of that place so that students can compare between their works and the real picture.

Description might be:

This is a picture of a public park in the beautiful day. In the park, there is a big tree at the left hand side of the park, and the nice sun is shining on the top of the right hand side. While there are three birds flying next to the right hand side of the sun, there are two clouds at the left hand side. Back to the ground, there is a Beatle car beneath the tree.

      2.   Presentation: Teacher will explain to the students about what they

will be doing. After that, teacher will have students in pairs. Then,

teacher will model activity for students.

      3.   Practice. Teacher will give each student a picture. Then, teacher

have them to work in pairs to give each other the dictation; have

one student make their own story of the picture and have them describe the picture as the other student draws the picture. Teacher also gives students a clue of the picture at the back side of the picture. While students will be doing the activity, teacher will observe and help their works.

4.      Evaluation. After finishing the activity, teacher will ask students to

compare between their drawings and the real pictures.

5.      Extension. Teachers will ask students to do the same activity at

home; students might ask any member in their family to describe pictures for them. Then, students will bring their drawings to the class attached with the real pictures.
